Profile

Maria Hornung is a PhD candidate in the Research Training Group "The Dynamics of Demography, Democratic Processes and Public Policy" (DYNAMICS) and at the Department of Social Sciences, Humboldt University of Berlin.  

Maria obtained a BA in Sociology from the University of Freiburg, a master’s degree in Sociolinguistics and Multilingualism from the University of Mainz and completed a master’s programme in Demography at Stockholm University.  She also spent a semester at the University of Helsinki and the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Her research interests include social inequalities over the life course and the effect of social change on demographic behavior. In her master’s thesis in demography, Maria focused on the perception of fairness of the labor division across the transition to parenthood. Furthermore, she has been working as a research assistant at Stockholm University on divorce trends over the transition from state socialism.
