Profile

 

Emily Frank is a PhD candidate at the Research Training Group "The Dynamics of Demography, Democratic Processes and Public Policy" (DYNAMICS), jointly organised by the Hertie School and the Department of Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, starting September 2021. 

 

She obtained a bachelor´s degree in sociology from New York University. After sending two years at the Urban Justice Center, where she provided legal support to social assistance recipients, she went on to complete her Master´s degree in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she worked at the Institute of Research on Poverty. 

 

Emily´s research interests concern migration and the welfare state. More specifically, she is interested in welfare state receptiveness to migration, stigmatization of welfare recipiency, and the influence of street-level bureaucrats in welfare state accommodation of migrants.
