Mahmoud Farag

Mahmoud Farag received his PhD (Dr. phil., summa cum laude) in political science from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in 2021.

He currently lectures at the Department of Political Science, University of Zurich. Previously, he held positions or undertook research visits at Goethe University Frankfurt, the University of Zurich and the University of Geneva.

He is broadly interested in comparative politics with a focus on regime-opposition relations under democracy and autocracy, cleavage politics in new democracies, institutional design in divided societies
and Middle Eastern politics.

Mahmoud's research has been published in international Journals such as Government and Opposition, European Political Science, Mediterranean Politics, PS: Political Science & Politics, Stanford Social Innovation Review and Zeitschrift für Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft in addition to a number of
policy outlets.

Before shifting to academia, for over a decade, he consulted for and worked at international NGOs including Transparency International, CARE International and the International Civil Society Centre among others on issues related to good governance and accountability.
