Humboldt University of Berlin's Department of Social Sciences (Institut für Sozialwissenschaften) and the Institute for Integration and Migration Research (BIM) established a research and teaching partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand's African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS) in 2015.

The partnership is aimed to establish long-term cooperation between the institutes by providing a platform for academic exchange in research and teaching. The partnership follows a research agenda consisting of three thematic focal points:

  • Public health, migration, and xenophobic violence
  • Sexuality, migration, and sex work
  • Racist and anti-migrant movements

As an addition to the research agenda, the current program involves joint research, teaching, and long-term exchange programs for master students and doctoral students of the institutes.
