Student Advisory Consultations on Academic Text Production at the ISW

We offer support on producing written and oral academic texts at the ISW, during office hours. This includes consultations on the development of an academic question, literature research and processing and the conception of academic writing. Specifically, if students are unsure about the completion of seminar papers or other pieces of academic writing, or when they have writer’s block, the student support office can provide new input through consultation sessions. Together with students, the SSO can try to develop new solutions to specific problems or questions students have. This opportunity is aimed at students who need help with the completion of essays, seminar papers or theses or who need to produce presentations, and is also accessible for Erasmus students.

Additional Material: How to write a scientific paper in English.

Consultation on achieving the right study/life balance – studying under challenging circumstances.

Studying at university can be an exciting challenge, but, depending on personal situation, background and requirements, it can also be a difficult challenge to overcome. Whether working or raising children whilst studying, studying with a disability or a migration background or simply if students have worries around performance pressure – achieving the right study/life balance can be complex and challenging. In the consultation sessions the Student Support Office helps students to recognise worries and problems and to actively engage with them. Cooperatively, we develop potential solutions and strategies to overcome these problems (for example, time management, further advisory sessions or consultations, the possibility of financial support etc.).

During consultation and in the Tutorien/Workshops we support students in the following areas:

  • studying and working
  • studying with children
  • studying with disablities and chronic illnesses (including mental illness)
  • studying with a background of migration
  • performance pressure

Central themes are:

  • time management
  • dealing with exam anxiety
  • dealing with procastination
  • study-grant possibilites
  • general information on further consultation or help offers
