Program

Is it possible to spend my second or third semester in Berlin without having any proficiency in German?

This is not possible since the strengthening of language skills is a central goal of the program. If you are interested in continuing your studies in Berlin after the first semester, you will be asked to take an online German language test designed by Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. In order to pass the test you have to reach a score of 60 points (~ B1-level). Without passing the test before the next semester starts, you will, however, not be able to study in Berlin.

What is the fee for the Euromasters Program?

Euromasters charges tuition fees, which amount to £9.500/program (EU students) or £15.000/program (non-EU students). Tuition fees are payable to the University of Bath. Additional administrative fees may accrue at partner sites. In Berlin, there is an additional semester fee of approx. 315 € that includes the public transportation ticket.

Can I apply for DAAD scholarships (German Academic Exchange Service)?

In general, it is possible to apply for DAAD scholarships for the Euromasters Program. For further information on application procedures, we kindly ask you to contact DAAD.

Application requirements

What is the application deadline for the Euromasters Program?

Students can apply for the Euromasters Program all year. However, places are limited and early application is advised to ensure full site options.  There is a deadline of 30 May for non-EU applicants due to visa requirements. For UK / EU applicants the deadline is 30 July.

Which university do I send my application documents to?

Applicants are required to apply at the University of Bath, since that is where the selection process takes place. Furthermore, all students begin the Euromasters Program in Bath.

How long does the University of Bath need to review my application?

Since there is no particular application period, applications are usually dealt with as they arrive. After receiving the application, the office in Bath usually needs two weeks to decide whether the application is approved.

Does the application process involve personal interviews with applicants?

No. Applicants are reviewed based on their application documents.

Is the GRE a compulsory requirement?

No, you do not need a GRE. Minimum requirements are a good Honours degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject area (most typically European Studies, French (or German, or Italian, or Spanish) Studies, Politics, History, Economics and Sociology).

Is it possible to apply for the Program without having completed the BA program?

Yes, this is possible. However, the BA diploma has to be submitted before the beginning of the program.

Language requirements

What are the language requirements for the Euromasters Program?

Students are expected to be near-fluent in English and one other European language relevant to the countries participating in the program. Evidence of English Language proficiency is required (TOEFL or IELTS). Guidelines for test scores are: IELTS 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in each of the four components); TOEFL 90 (with at least 21 in each component). Applicants for sites other than Bath must demonstrate evidence of their ability to work academically at an appropriate level in that language.

Who is exempted from providing an English language certificate?

The English language certificate does not need to be provided by native English speakers and students who completed their 3-year undergraduate degree in an English speaking country.

What is the language of teaching in Berlin?

At Humboldt-Universität it is possible to study in German (Euromasters-German track) as well as in English (Euromasters-English track). Students have the largest range of options if they can study in both languages. Half of the compulsory classes are taught in English and the other half are offered in German. In consultation with the program directors, it is possible to replace compulsory courses with courses of comparable content in the chosen language from the regular course offerings. In agreement with the teachers, assignments can generally be submitted in German or English, regardless of the course language.
