Gülçin Balamir Coşkun received her undergraduate degree from Galatasaray University and MA degree from University Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne. She obtained her PhD degree from International Relations Program at Istanbul University. Her research focuses on authoritarianism of the Turkish political system, democratic theory, political violence and refugees. Her last article on a comparative analysis of the Italian and Turkish political party systems has been recently published in the European Review. She actually works as a guest researcher at the Institut für Sozialwissenschaften, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her ongoing project focuses on the role of media control as a symptom of democratic backsliding in the AKP era.
