Sarah Uhlmann is a PhD candidate at the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences (BGSS), Humboldt University. Her research interest involves social movements and contentious politics, social theory, political economy. In her dissertation she explores and compares current urban social movements in New York, Buenos Aires and Hamburg. Her research centers on the category of urban space in the context of political mobilization, how it becomes the starting point of urban social and political struggles but also how space is used as a resource for an engagement with anti-gentrification and housing politics, and community building.
