Right to the Post-Secular City: An ethnographic study on the Turkish women's experiences in using and constructing the public space in Berlin

This study will aim to reflect how Turkish women in Berlin construct the idea of public space and in what ways they use it. By doing this, it will ask how they define their socio-spatial environment and also it will try to understand how the spaces of Turkish culture and Islam function in identity and community formations of Turkish women in Germany. It will seek answers to following questions: How religion manifests in public space? How the public presence of religion can be understood in pluralistic and post-secular western cities? How the visibility of religion matters for the ways in which women use the public space? How women relate their identities, cultural values and religious practices to the materialities of public sphere? Is it possible for women to claim their rights to the city in a way that they can manifest their gender as well as religious identities?
