Impact of political elites on the cleavage structure of Ukrainian society: 1991-2006.
Abstract
This research project is a case study, which aims to explain the rise and impact of ethnic mobilization in the Ukraine after 1991. The analyses’ focus is on political dimension of a conflict between Russian speaking minority and Ukrainian speaking majority in the Ukraine in the first 15 years of independence. The research looks to make a contribution to following theoretical questions: How and to what extent ethnic elites can manipulate mass identities and intergroup conflict?, and What is the impact of ethnic mobilization on the functioning ability of democratic institutions?
