Dissertation Title
The self-perpetuating effect of violence in conflicts between armed groups
(Die Eigendynamik der Gewalt bei bewaffneten Gruppen)
Abstract
The Nation-state system in world society is based on the concept of sovereignty, defining contemporary political order. However, during violent conflict, the concept of sovereignty as a way to legitimate political power is both challenged and renegotiated by political actors through voiced claims and political violence. The project will analyze how armed groups use the concept of sovereignty in order to legitimize their claims for legitimate statehood.
