Dissertation Topic
Violence in demonstrations. A comparative analysis of situational interaction dynamics at social movement protests.
Abstract
Why do some social movement protests turn violent, while the majority stays peaceful? This dissertation deals with the emergence of physical violence in demonstrations of generally peaceful social movements. Special attention will be paid to situational interaction dynamics, assuming that they are crucial for the occurrence of violent. The internal structure of the event courses of leftist demonstrations will be reconstructed and analyzed using Qualitative Comparative Analysis.
